Database on the computer

Databases

Library databases, also called periodical indexes, point to citations of articles in magazines, journals and newspapers. Many databases contain abstracts or brief summaries of the articles. Some contain the full text, or entire content, of whole articles as they originally appeared in the periodical.

The information in these databases is not freely available on the Web. You will not find this information by searching in Google or Ask Jeeves. The right to access the databases has been purchased by the Library.

As a member of the Peirce community, you may use the databases from any Internet-connected computer. If you are not on campus, you will need the current Library password and username.

Use a Database

  • when researching a topic in magazines, journals or newspapers
  • when you know a subject but not a specific article
