Books
The Library has a number of books on the history of the news and its role in our culture. Here's some you might find interesting (though, this is not an exhaustive list):

Databases
The Library subscribes to--that is, pays for--a number of databases that contain articles, books and other information for you to use for your government research. The most useful databases for this subject are:
- Newspaper Source (EBSCOhost): Provides selected full text for 25 national and international newspapers, as well as full text television & radio news transcripts, and selected full text for more than 200 regional (U.S.) newspapers
- New York Times: Provides access to all articles published in the New York Times since 2000
- Philadelphia Inquirer: Provides access to all articles published in the Philadelphia Inquirer since 1984
- Regional Business News (EBSCOhost): Provides full text coverage for regional business publications, including 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States
- Wall Street Journal: Provides access to all articles published in the Wall Street Journal since 1984

A (secular) international daily newspaper renown for its outstanding news coverage and reporting. Articles from the last 5 days are FREE. CSM is selectively available back to 1980 through the Library's subscription to Academic Universe, which you can access via the "databases" page. - Google Directory of International Newspapers

Newspapers/Regional)
A directory of newspapers from around the world. It is a good, though not comprehensive, list. - Los Angeles Times

A west coast perspective on national and international news. Articles from the last 7 days are FREE. The last 6 months are selectively available via the Library's subscription to Academic Universe, which you can access through the "databases" page. - New York Times

America's leading liberal newspaper. Free registration required. Articles from the last 7 days are FREE. NYT is also available back to 2000 via the Library's subscription, which you can access through the "databases" page. - Philadelphia Inquirer

America's third oldest surviving daily newspaper. Free registration required. Articles from the last 7 days are FREE. The Inquirer is also available back to 1984 via the Library's subscription, which you can access through the "databases" page. - Philadelphia Daily News

Known as "The People Paper," it provides coverage of (primarily) local Philadelphia issues and sports. Free registration required. Articles from the last 7 days are FREE.
